Step by Step
This guided tour lasts about 5 hours and is organised for small groups. The destination is La Geria, an area at the foot of Timanfaya with dark soils, the result of volcanic activity. Here the Malvasia wine is harvested and you will have the opportunity to taste it in a traditional winery. The excursion takes place in an air-conditioned minivan and includes pick-up from hotels in Costa Teguise, Yaiza and Puerto del Carmen.
La Geria is an area characterised by arid terrain and strong winds. To grow grapes, the farmers devised a system: dig circular holes, reinforce them with stones as windbreaks and plant the vines inside the cavity. Thanks to this system, the plants retain humidity, favouring the ripening of the bunches.
Malvasía is the most cultivated variety. It gives a straw-coloured wine with the aroma of flowers and fresh fruit. It can be sweet or dry, in the latter case it acquires a more greenish colour. The stop at the winery includes a wine tasting complemented by explanations from an oenologist. You'll also get a close-up view of the vineyard as you stroll through an extraordinary landscape.
The walking tour is about 10 km but of moderate intensity. All other transfers are by minivan, including the return trip to the hotel.
