Step by Step

Discover some of the tragic history of World War II on this tour of the Salaspils Memorial Site in Riga. In an experience lasting around three hours and for small groups of around eight people, a guide will show you around this memorial complex located approximately 18 kilometres by road from the capital. Your booking will include a return transfer in a private vehicle.

This complex is built on the grounds of the former Salaspils concentration camp, which operated from 1941 to 1944. It was originally intended for political prisoners and was later expanded to include Jews, Gypsies and others considered 'undesirable' by the Nazis.

Now this memorial ensemble serves as a memorial to the victims of the occupation. This site consists of several elements that together create a great memorial experience. For example, you will see the monument "To the Children of the World", which represents the innocent victims who perished.

You will also see a series of stone walls engraved with the names of the countries affected by the Nazi regime, as well as various sculptures placed throughout the complex to reflect on the horrors of that time.

Inside you will have the opportunity to visit a series of exhibitions with historical artefacts and documents preserved from that time, as well as personal testimonies.
