The Edge NYC Opening Times
An important thing to bear in mind if you are going to visit the Edge Observatory is the opening hours and duration of the visit. I'll give you all the information you need to help you make the most of your time there.
The Edge is one of New York City's most impressive landmarks, so if you're planning a visit, organising your itinerary around its opening hours is key.
You probably have a thousand activities planned and keeping in mind the opening hours of the attractions you'll be visiting will help you make the most of your trip.
1. Timetables for visiting The Edge
The Edge Observatory, located in the trendy Hudson Yards neighbourhood, is open to the public 365 days a year, without exception. But hours vary depending on the number of visitors. There are days and weeks considered "high season", which you should be aware of if you purchase your ticket through the official website.
- Regular opening hours in low season: from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.
- Extended opening hours in high season: from 8:00 to 00:00.
2. How long is the Edge tour?
To give you an idea, an average tour can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour.
However, there is no fixed time limit for a visit to the viewing platform. Once you enter the building, you can stay as long as you like, taking photos, having a coffee, or just taking in the magnificent views.
Of course, it is important to respect the time you have chosen and for which you have bought your ticket. There is no waiting room if you arrive early and you are not guaranteed entry if you arrive outside your time slot. My recommendation is to go in advance, take a leisurely stroll through Hudson Yards and avoid any kind of mishap that could jeopardise this vertigo-inducing experience.
3. I want to see the sunset from the viewing platform, what time should I go?
The sunset changes a lot throughout the year, given New York City's extreme weather in both winter and summer. It is therefore advisable to research this when you buy your ticket. In winter it can set between 16:00 and 18:30 and in summer between 19:00 and 21:30. But it is very variable.
On the official website, they will also tell you the estimated time of sunset, depending on the day. And if you decide to buy your ticket this way, bear in mind that you will be charged an extra €9 to see the sunset. (You can find more information about prices here: The Edge ticket prices.
I also recommend that you arrive at least an hour before the time you want to watch the sun go down, as it tends to be a very busy time and the tour usually takes longer.
4. Opening times of the champagne bar at the top of The Edge
If in addition to visiting The Edge you would like to treat yourself to a cocktail or refreshment on the terrace-bar of its spectacular observatory, the opening hours of the terrace are the same as those of the viewing platform itself.
However, due to weather conditions, the open-air terrace may be closed at certain times of the day.
- Regular opening hours in the low season: from 10:00 to 22:00.
- Extended opening hours in high season: from 8:00 to 00:00.
5. Nearby attraction opening times to look out for
Visiting The Edge, as we have already seen, is also a great excuse to tour the area. But what are the opening hours of the attractions I'll find next to the Edge?
