Step by Step
The Calypso Cabaret is one of the Thai capital's most famous and popular attractions. It is a theatrical show featuring transsexual (ladyboy) performers who perform classic songs in elaborate costumes. The show lasts about an hour and includes a bit of everything: Korean pop, traditional Japanese music, songs in English, Chinese or Malay, and even tributes to rock stars and movie stars.
The price includes an alcoholic or soft drink of your choice. The theatre also has a restaurant serving local specialities and vegetarian options: Kratong Thong (an assortment of vegetables and corn), stir-fried mixed vegetables and Kaeng Kiew Wan Gai (green curry soup with chicken), among other delicious dishes. However, please note that dinner is not included in the ticket price.
Performances (minimum 12) are scheduled every day from late afternoon and also include a short break of a few minutes between shows.
Cabaret Calypso was born in 1988 and has kept its popularity intact. Its aim is to fight stereotypes and express the artistic side of the artists. The clothes, the rich choreography and the synchronisation of the movements are the strong point of the show.
The theatre is located at the Asiatique The Riverfront, a popular shopping and entertainment centre in Bangkok. It can be easily reached by boat - it is located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River - as well as by bus or metro.
