But it's not only trees that you'll see inside this natural park, there are many small attractions within the different areas of the park for children to have fun. Swings, slides and other mechanical attractions are available for all ages.

The Briz Farm, also called the Park of the Senses, is one of the most fun and original places to visit with children, thanks to the number of trees in its territory. It is a place to find and discover the scent of different plants such as jasmine and other flowers.

An ideal place to get in touch with nature, not only talking about trees and flowers, but also about the fauna that inhabits the place, different animals of various popular and traditional species of Galicia. The lakes and the slide area for children is the part of the park that they will like the most, so it is a place without waste.

Within the estate you can find at least three buildings: the main house, the house of the cellars and the house of the landlords. Each of these structures is set amidst all the splendour of the estate, which also boasts areas of fruit trees. An ideal plan after a monumental tour of the historic centre of Pontevedra.

In these urban parks you can find slides for all sizes and ages, for small children and also for teenagers or older children. One of the advantages is that there is no entrance fee and you can go as many times as you want and at the time that suits you best.

It's a good plan to always include in your outings with children if you're going to visit Vigo in 4 days or more. Vigo Z oo is one of children's favourite attractions, not only because of the large number of animal species they see during their visit, but also because it's an open-air place where they can learn about the different species that live there.

Another of the advantages of this zoo for the enjoyment of children is that it offers a large number of workshops for them, where they can learn more about the characteristics of the fauna, and do fun activities in the company of their parents, other children and those responsible for offering these workshops.

Among the species you can see at the zoo are mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, arachnids, myriapods and insects. But children will also love to see the large number of plants that are kept in this place, which are divided between grasses, trees and shrubs.

In itself, the Galician Museum of the Sea is a good place to visit with children because they love to see the many marine objects and artefacts from Vigo's port history, but beyond that, there is a special space that they like even more, and that's the aquarium.

In the museum's aquarium, which is undoubtedly one of the best museums in Vigo, you can find many marine species that inhabit the Rías Baixas area and the Atlantic Ocean. One of the best experiences you'll find in this museum's aquarium is the species sample route.

When I talk about sample routes, I am referring to the way in which the different species are presented to visitors: first the species that live on the coasts, then those whose habitat is in the Rías Baixas and finally those that live on the island. All this is well explained during the tour of the museum.

Skateboarding is a sport for teenagers, most of the time. That's why if you're travelling with children and teenagers to Vigo, and they like to practice with their scooter or bike, they can do it at the skate park in Navia.

The Barreiro neighbourhood is one of the places in Vigo where you can find good tracks for skateboarding, BMX or rollerblading, and the one in Navia is one of the best so far, with a total of 2,000 square metres. The best thing about this park is that it is divided into areas according to the difficulty of each of the tricks on display.

Another place where a skating rink has been set up for the more adventurous youngsters is in O Castro, a place you can visit with the children and youngsters to spend a pleasant time sharing and practising some of the trendiest urban sports.

Hiking routes are a real adventure for children, which is why one of the best plans you can make is to go to Monte Aloia in the town of Tui. Something that will catch your attention about Monte Aloia is that it has small and short trails, suitable for walking with the little ones without tiring them too much.

It has five viewpoints where you can see incredible views of the river Minho. Moreover, if you go with children who are interested in history and archaeological remains, this is one of the places where you can find these kinds of sites. In fact, if you go with a tour guide to the archaeological sites in the park, you can learn about the history.

On the clearest days you can get panoramic views of the whole park. And if you're bike lovers, you can opt for a path suitable for leisurely bike rides. And beyond the entertainment for the children, it is a place where you can breathe calm and tranquillity. Ideal to discover before visiting the town of Tui.

There are several places in Vigo where you can take the kids horseback riding. Horseback rides generally take you to some of the best places in the city, and always in the company of an expert guide who will guide you on how the horses behave and how to ride, in case you don't know how to do it.

The most popular horse rides are the ones in Monte Galiñeiro and Mougás. The most fun thing about these rides is that you can discover the most beautiful natural spots just outside the city. It is one of the best activities to do with children during the weekend because it is an activity that they enjoy and at the same time it is relaxing.

Generally, horse riding routes last between an hour and an hour and a half. It is also popular to do the Monte Aloia route, where you can ride through the whole park on horseback.

The Aldán forest is one of the best things to see and do in Vigo, a hidden gem of the Rías Baixas. It's located very close to Vigo, so I consider travelling to this destination one of the best excursions from Vigo. In this case, it's a park called "bosque encantado" (enchanted forest). The name alone makes children automatically want to visit it.

Inside the forest there are many things to see and photograph, including paths with leafy trees, abundant vegetation and, above all, small buildings that look like something out of a fairy tale. This place leaves a lot to the imagination and is one of those places to get lost in for a whole morning and get to know it.

The magical feature of this place is undoubtedly the Castle of O Frendoal, a half-built construction that was intended to serve as a castle for the Counts of Canalejas. Nowadays, it is in a state of abandonment, covered by undergrowth and only its fortified façade remains, the perfect setting for imagining magical stories and legends.

Interesting details

  • Price: There is no charge to enter this place.
  • Opening hours: You can enter at any time you want.
  • Location: It is located in the Cangas area, half an hour from Vigo, so you can get there by car or taxi.

The O Grove Aquarium is one of the best things to do with children in Pontevedra, very close to Vigo, because of the large number of marine species you can see there. Weather permitting, you'll also be able to see many birds of prey.

It's one of the best places to visit with children thanks to the exhibitions of larger marine animals, which are the ones that usually impress children.

Among the species you can see are those that live in the Rías Baixas and also in the Atlantic. I recommend allowing plenty of time for the visit. In fact, it is one of the best things to do in Pontevedra once you have had a good tour of the old town.

  • Price: children under the age of 4 get in free, while tickets for the rest of the public can cost between 10 and 14 euros.
