Step by Step
In this activity you will have the opportunity, for around 3 hours, to learn how to cook popular Japanese food in the style of Izakaya taverns. Under the guidance of an expert cook, you will learn how to prepare 5-6 traditional homemade dishes, the recipes of which you can then take with you, to cook back home for your family and friends.
Throughout the class, you will learn Japanese seasoning techniques and how to prepare dashi, a Japanese soup stock, essential in their cuisine. You will be able to watch demonstrations by master chefs and follow their instructions to prepare and enjoy your own Izakaya-style creations.
Once you have finished cooking, you can enjoy the prepared dishes with the rest of your fellow students. The recipes also include vegetarian and gluten-free options for those who need it.
The izakaya is a type of traditional Japanese tavern that serves alcoholic beverages and local food in small portions to share. It is an informal and cosy place where customers can relax and socialise while enjoying food and drink. The menu at an izakaya can include a wide variety of dishes, from sashimi, tempura and yakitori (chicken skewers) to more elaborate dishes such as nabe (hot pot).
A variety of drinks can also be found in these taverns, from beer and sake to shochu (distilled liquor) and wine. Izakayas are popular with Japanese workers after work and with tourists looking for an authentic culinary experience.
A fun and educational activity, it will allow you to discover in depth the traditional flavours of Japan and learn more about its culture through gastronomy. Ideal for foodies and food lovers.
