Step by Step

Get to know the history and architectural beauty of Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, with a visit to the Basilica of Santa Croce, the largest Franciscan church in the world. Enter the "Pantheon of Italian Glories" and discover this jewel of pre-Renaissance art, on a tour lasting about an hour , led by an official guide.

One thing that characterises it is the almost 300 tombs it houses inside. You will see the burial place of some of the most famous people who rest in this church. Such as Galileo Galilei, Machiavelli, Michelangelo and Rossini. The Basilica of Santa Croce is also notable for its sixteen chapels. In groups of around 20 people, you will contemplate the immense artistic wealth of the basilica with spectacular frescoes by artists such as Giotto, Brunelleschi and Donatello.

With a radio system to listen to a guide to the history of this Franciscan church, you will see the funeral monument to the playwright Giovanni Battista Niccolini, built as inspiration for the Statue of Liberty. You will also admire up close the crucifix of Santa Croce sculpted by Donatello, a true jewel of the Renaissance.

After visiting its interior, you will explore Santa Croce Square and one of the most unique elements of the basilica: the Pazzi Chapel designed by Brunelleschi, and the last of his works. You will explore the rest of the basilica's exterior with your guide, passing through the bell tower and the crypt, ending your visit. After the tour is over, take the opportunity to return on your own to places whose paintings or monuments you would like to see again.

The truth is that this church is a classic of Tuscan gothic architecture. I am fascinated by this type of construction and its history. I was enchanted!
