Step by Step
Relax and explore Elafonisi on this tour from Chania. A professional guide will accompany you on this approximately ten-hour tour to tell you the best-known stories of this area in the southwest of the Greek island of Crete. You will be transferred by bus to and from Chania, about 75 kilometres away by road.
During the excursion you will have the opportunity to pass and access the cave of Hagia Sophia. This is a place where you will see the historic church of Agia Sofia, located on the mountainside above the cave. The church is built on the site of an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess Rhea and this area has been considered sacred.
You can also see the cave, about 20 kilometres from the town of Heraklion, which is famous for its magnificent stalactites and stalagmites. The cave, in total, is about 100 metres long and 40 metres deep.
On the other hand, you will reach Elafonisi, a beach in a protected area that is popular for its pink and white sand, as well as its crystal clear turquoise waters and a small island that can be reached on foot through the shallow waters.
As well as swimming and sunbathing, you can explore the surrounding area, such as the dunes, where you may see, if you're lucky, endangered sea turtles and other marine animals.
This plan is perfect for you and your family, as the beach is located in a shallow lagoon.
