Step by Step
This guided tour will allow you to discover Giverny, a charming village in Normandy, where the famous painter Claude Monet lived from 1883 until his death. You will enter his house, surrounded by a relaxing garden that inspired many of his works. The activity includes entrance tickets and explanations by an expert guide , which you can choose to have in English or French during the booking process. The tour lasts approximately 2 hours.
The residence where Monet spent his last years is recognisable by its pink façade and green shutters. Inside, everything has been preserved as it was in the past. You will see the epicerie (the spice room with its hanging furniture), the blue drawing room, the painter's studio and the other rooms. The walls are decorated with a large collection of Japanese prints.
The visit continues in the garden, where Monet put his second passion, botany, into practice. The park surrounding the house is divided into two parts: Clos Normande, a French-style garden with cherry trees, apricot trees and rose arches, and the water garden. In the latter part there is a beautiful pond covered with water lilies, a Japanese bridge and bamboo plants, peonies and weeping willows that create an oriental atmosphere. After the garden stage, the tour ends with a stroll through the village.
Giverny is located about 80 kilometres from Paris and is easily accessible via the A13 motorway. Free parking is available near Monet's house, just over 5 minutes' walk away.
