Cannes is a beautiful city surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea. This makes it a must-see destination when visiting the French Riviera. Although the city is mainly known for its Film Festival, there are many other events and activities you can do during your trip.

Among the best things to do in Cannes you can enjoy the beaches, take a boat trip for swimming or snorkelling, taste fresh seasonal produce on a gastronomic tour, cycle around the city on an electric bike and much more. Here are the activities I consider essential.

With the arrival of the pleasant June temperatures in Cannes, it's the perfect time to book a boat trip and take part in various water activities.

The Bay of Cannes has wonderful landscapes and seascapes that you can discover if you choose to go snorkelling in the sea.

For 15 minutes you will sail along the beautiful coastline with incredible views of the French Riviera and, on arrival, you will have 5 hours completely free to explore Saint Tropez and then return to Cannes by ferry. You really can't miss it. For me it's a perfect experience.

In mid-June, Cannes gets creative with the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

Whether you are interested in the creative world or just curious, you can take part in the activities organised as part of the Festival by registering for workshops on creativity, marketing, leadership, sustainability and many other issues of great importance in today's world.

You can also participate as an audience and vote for the most creative ads that managed to communicate their message in an original way. Another way to participate in the event is by simply submitting your idea or initiative.

Whether you plan to spend 3 days in Cannes or more during June, you should take advantage of the warm temperatures this month and venture out to spend a different kind of day at some of the beaches that make up the French Riviera:

• La Plage Macé: just a 9-minute walk from the centre. It offers fine sand that is not uncomfortable to walk on.
• La Croisette Beach Cannes: close to La Croisette promenade, it is easily accessible. It offers calm waves and is located 2 minutes away from Plage Macé.
• Carlton Beach: very close to the centre and you can observe the Bay of Cannes in all its splendour and enjoy the sun on a sun lounger.

If you're travelling to Cannes with your family in June, you can make the most of the good weather and sunny days by playing Finding Fairy Tales, an outdoor mobile game.

It involves wandering the streets of the city discovering clues, completing tasks and delving into stories inspired by the Brothers Grimm's fairy tales, a unique opportunity to interact with the environment.

• The Palais des Festivals: this is where the Cannes Film Festival is held and you will have the red carpet and the stairs where countless artists have paraded.
• The Old Port: you can take pictures at different times of the day and take advantage of the natural daylight to capture the yachts, the blue sky and the contrast between the sand and the sea, or during the night hours to get orange tones.
• The Henry Peter BroughamMonument: surrounded by palm trees and picturesque facades, it provides a beautiful backdrop.

June is the ideal time to visit the Vieux Port de Cannes, as the arrival of the summer solstice brings warm weather and an incredible view of the sea.

You can stroll along the quayside at your own pace, while feeling the sea breeze caress your face. This picturesque harbour, built during the 1950s and managed by Igy Marinas, is one of the city's landmarks.

Snoop around the luxurious yachts and fishing boats on site and climb up to the terraces of the restaurants and bars lining the quayside for amazing sunset views.

The Castre Museum is a historic building dating back to the 17th and 19th centuries, where you'll find primitive art displays and colourful panoramas from the structure's square tower.

As you wander through this museum, you'll see various objects and items typical of the Mediterranean, in ethnology and archaeology collections. One of the most interesting attractions is the display of various musical instruments from different parts of the world.

On the other hand, if you want to get an exceptional view and the best pictures of the Bay of Cannes, you will have to climb up the square tower a total of 109 steps. Also, don't forget to see the collection of paintings from the Orient and the collections of primitive art from the Himalayas.

In general, average temperatures range from 18°C to 25°C. On hot days, the estimated maximum is 29°C, making it ideal for a wide range of activities in the city.
