Step by Step

Nausicaá is the largest aquarium in Europe and its huge tanks house species from all over the planet. Its strength is its ability to attract and sensitise visitors, while ensuring the welfare of the animals. The following list lists its main environments:

  • La grande baie - A 10,000 cubic metre tank that recreates the waters of Malpelo Island (Colombia). From the tiered seating you can see large rays and sharks and chunks of sharks.
  • Dans l'oeil du climat - An immersive show explaining climate change and the consequences for the planet and animal species. Among the most affected are the African penguins, forced to move away from their habitat due to variations in ocean currents.
  • La réserve des lions de mer - Sea lions can easily weigh 300 kg, but in the water they are fast and agile, reaching a speed of up to 30 km/h. The tank has a tunnel that allows you to see them up close.
  • Des rivages et des hommes - Here you can learn more about the links between man and the sea. Human presence presupposes a delicate balance with nature.
  • Les méduses à Nausicaa - Animals essential to marine ecosystems. Nausicaa is home to several fascinating species, such as the Golden Jellyfish and the Pacific Chrysaora.
  • Les requins à Nausicaá - The tank housing the most feared predators of the oceans. There are several species: bull sharks (with a short, pointed snout and small eyes), leopard sharks (yellowish-brown with characteristic spots) and the small and harmless dogfish.

There is also a touch pool, where you can pet dogfish (small, harmless sharks with elongated bodies) and common stingrays. It is a very popular place for the youngest members of the family.

Boulogne-sur-Mer is a commune overlooking the Strait of Dover, a short distance from Calais. Nausicaa is located on Boulevard Sainte-Beuve, a few minutes walk from the historic centre.

One of the most exciting moments was when we had the opportunity to see the penguins up close and observe their playful behaviour.
