12 Best Restaurants in Prague
When planning your trip you can't forget where to eat. To help you, I've compiled a list of the best restaurants where you can sample the local cuisine.
After a long walk to see the must-see sights of Prague, it's time to recharge your batteries. Whether in the old town, the Jewish quarter or the castle area, the Czech capital offers a wide range of restaurants with dishes such as knuckle of pork or goulash, always accompanied by a local beer.
Bear in mind, however, that Prague, being such a tourist city, is not free of "tourist traps". It is therefore important to know the names of certain restaurants and their locations in advance so that your meal does not turn out to be a disappointment. In this list, I have prioritised places that offer good value for money, but do not neglect some luxury to celebrate the trip.
1. U Pivrnce, the best value for money in central Prague
Its privileged location, between Charles Bridge and the Old Town Square, specifically in the central Maiselova Street, makes U Pivrnce one of the best options to include in your gastronomic tour of Prague, whether for lunch or dinner after a day of sightseeing in the area.
Moreover, this restaurant is considered one of the best value for money restaurants in the centre of Prague. The menu features traditional dishes you can eat in Prague, such as goulash or veal stew with spices, not forgetting of course the famous Pilsen beer. Their stout beer is also worth a try.

- Recommended if... you want to dine well in a very pleasant place.
2. Krčma, the best stop after visiting the Jewish cemetery
Booking a medieval dinner and show in Prague is another must on your trip to the Czech capital. For example, Krčma, which looks like a medieval tavern, is one of the best places to relax and eat traditional dishes after a tour of the Jewish quarter.
To recharge your batteries, Krčma offers a fairly extensive menu at very interesting prices. However, as in other restaurants in Prague, you should be careful with the quantities, as many of the dishes can easily be enough for two people. One example is the knuckle of knuckle weighing over a kilo served in this tavern.
Interesting details
- Where: Kostecna, 925/4.
- Average price per person: between €8 and €15.
- Opening hours: 11 am to 11 pm every day of the week.

3. U Matejicku, the essence of Czech cuisine
Very close to the original Dancing House, U Matejicku 's location combines the advantages of not being right in the tourist centre, but just a few minutes away from it. It is, therefore, a perfect place to include in your gastronomic tour of Prague if you don't mind a little detour from the old town for great food at a great price.
In general, the menu is composed of various dishes of homemade Czech food, such as schnitzel or their fabulous sausages, all accompanied by craft beer. Note that it is one of the most popular beverages in the Czech Republic and, in fact, there is a wide range of craft beer tours in Prague.
U Matejicku is also known for its friendly and helpful staff, always ready to help with any questions you may have.

- Average price per person: between €8 and €12.
- Opening hours: 11 am to 11 pm.
- Recommended dish: The beer sausages are unbeatable.
- Recommended if... you like to eat traditional dishes in a local atmosphere.
4. Nase Maso, the best place for carnivorous people.
Nase Maso is a very special place to include in your gastronomic tour of Prague. It is ideal for lovers of good meat. In fact, it is a butcher's shop that serves its customers dishes prepared with its products quickly and directly.
Due to its location, in the heart of the Jewish quarter, very close to the so-called Spanish Synagogue, this place is ideal for those who have chosen to book a tour of the Jewish quarter. The best thing about this place is undoubtedly the quality of the meat they serve, whether in the form of hamburgers, sausages or even a spectacular steak tartar. In that sense, few restaurants in the city can compete with this quality.
The main problem with this place is the limited space if you want to eat inside. There are only 4 or 5 small tables to sit at, and at peak times it is often difficult to find a free table.
Interesting details
- Where: Dlouha, 39.
- Average price per person: can easily reach €20.
- Opening hours: Monday to Saturday, between 8.30am and 10pm. Closed on Sundays.
- Recommended dish: for my taste, their steak tartar, but any burger will convince you.
- Recommended if... you are a meat lover and want to try the best.
5. U Tri jelinku, a restaurant on one of the most beautiful streets in Prague
U Tri jelinku is not only known for its good food, but also for its location. Anyone who has researched what to see in Prague's castle quarter will have discovered that there are a number of truly eye-catching streets. Among them is Nerudova Street, where this restaurant is located.
Including U Tri jelinku in your gastronomic tour of Prague will make your culinary experience even more unforgettable. For starters, the atmosphere is very pleasant and, most importantly, the food is of very good quality.
The soups on the menu are outstanding, although the goulash, knuckle and duck are not far behind. The service is equally excellent, especially the friendliness of the waiters.
Interesting details
- Where: Nerudova, 206/4.
- Average price per person: between €10 and €15 per person.
- Opening hours: 10 am to 10 pm.
- Recommended dish: Pumpkin soup or onion soup are perfect for a cold day.
- Recommended if... you have taken a guided tour of Prague Castle and the neighbourhood and are looking for a restaurant that completes the charm of the place.
6. Havelská Koruna, traditional Czech food by weight
If you've been on a guided tour of Prague, you're sure to have passed through Wenceslas Square. Nearby, just a few metres from the market on Havelská Street, you will find your next stop on your gastronomic tour of Prague. This is a self-service restaurant serving traditional Czech food.
When you enter, you will be given a piece of paper with which you must go to the counter to take your tray and choose your food, pointing it out to the person serving it. In the meantime, they will mark your order on the paper. When you have it, all you have to do is sit down to enjoy it and pay on the way out.
My advice is to take a look at the menu in English in the window before you go in. Generally speaking, you will be able to choose from various types of soup, chicken, fish and breaded meat.
Interesting details
- Where: Havelska, 502/21.
- Average price per person: between €10 and €15.
- Opening hours: daily from 10 am to 8 pm.
- Recommended dish: The goulash is very tasty, but what you shouldn't miss are the fruit-filled dumplings with yoghurt that they serve for dessert.
- Recommended if... you want to get to know a type of restaurant typical of the communist era in Eastern Europe.
7. Johnny Pizza, the best place to take a break from Czech food for a day
If you're staying in Prague for 5 days, you might want to take a break from Czech food (which is tasty but quite hard on the stomach) and try something different. Luckily, in the country's capital you'll find a small place that serves some of the best pizzas you'll find.
Johnny Pizza is located outside the historic centre, but it's not difficult to get there on foot. It's easy to spot, just look for a queue of people waiting to order.
In the restaurant you can choose between two sizes (30 or 50 cm) of a pizza that stands out for its thin dough and for being cooked on the spot. The only problem is that there are only three small tables, so it is very difficult to eat in the restaurant. If your hotel is nearby, you can order it to take away and enjoy it while you rest.
Interesting details
- Where: Koubkova, 685/16.
- Average price per person: between €5 and €7.
- Opening hours: 11 am to 9 pm.
- Recommended dish: The Four Seasons is perfect, although if you want to personalise your pizza you can opt for the Exlusive, which allows you to choose up to five toppings.
- Recommended if... you want a break from local food and want to try some great pizzas.
8. Ferdinanda, two different options for a great meal
Either of the two Ferdinanda 's restaurants in the city are perfect to include in a gastronomic tour of Prague. However, I do recommend that you be careful when ordering, as the portions are very generous and it's easy to overindulge. Another point in their favour is that they both have menus in Spanish.
- The first of the two restaurants is located in the lively Mala Strana district. This location makes it a very good option for a meal after enjoying your entrance to Prague Castle, although the area surrounding the restaurant itself is worth spending some time in.
- The second of the restaurants is in a strategic location: in the vicinity of the central train station. If you've read my article on the best excursions around Prague, you'll have seen that if you want to go on your own, the train is usually the best alternative, so this place could be a good choice for you.
Interesting details
- Where: one is at Karmelitská, 18; the second at Politických vězňů, 19.
- Average price per person: around €10.
- Opening hours: Opens at 11 am and closes at 11 pm.
- Recommended dish: The most traditional dish is the knuckle of pork, which is really delicious.
- Recommended if... you are looking for quality Czech food for lunch or dinner in a great area for your visits.
9. Loving Hut Koubkova, an option for vegetarians
Traditional Czech food does not have many options for vegetarians. However, there are a few restaurants in Prague that specialise in vegetarian food. One of them is the Loving Hut Koubkova.
This restaurant is located in one of the most touristy areas of the city, on Londynska Street. Its offer is not limited to lunch and dinner, but it is also open in the morning to serve good buffet breakfasts.
One aspect to bear in mind is that it is a self-service restaurant. You choose your food at the counter and pay according to weight. Please note that they do not allow card payments.
Interesting details
- Where: Londynska, 216/35.
- Average price per person: around €7-8.
- Opening hours: daily from 11 am to 10 pm.
- Recommended dish: any of the vegan burger varieties.
- Recommended if... you are vegetarian or simply want to give up meat for a day.
10. Mlynec, a treat with the best views of the city
Prague, as you can read in this article about the best views of the city, offers several breathtaking panoramas. If you want to enjoy one of them while dining, the Mlynec restaurant is the best choice.
If you manage to book a table in the right area you will be able to enjoy excellent views of the Charles Bridge and, if at night, appreciate its illumination under the stars.
On the other hand, the restaurant has a price range well above the Prague average, but it is worth including it in the gastronomic tour of your trip to Prague and indulge yourself during the trip. The service, as befits its category, is great and the menu combines traditional dishes with more creative additions.
Interesting details
- Where: Novotného lávka, 9.
- Average price per person: between 30 and 70 €.
- Opening hours: 11.30 am to 3 pm and 5 pm to 10 pm.
- Recommended dish: according to the restaurant itself, its schnitzel is the best in the city.
- Recommended if... you want to treat yourself to a little luxury during your visit to the city. .
11. Hard Rock Cafe, a safe choice
After enjoying all of Prague's must-see attractions, another option if you're not too keen on trying new things and prefer to be sure of a menu of hamburgers, sandwiches or macarons, make a reservation for the Hard Rock Cafe in Prague.
With this menu of two or three delicious dishes of typical American fare, you'll have a guaranteed lunch or dinner without too many surprises - and surrounded by rock legends!
Once you've enjoyed your dinner, I recommend you book a pub crawl in Prague and end the night on a high note.
12. Night cruise with lunch or dinner, an unforgettable experience
Another unforgettable experience to enjoy the gastronomy and Prague in general is to book a dinner cruise in the Czech capital. For approximately three hours you will have the opportunity to relax on a modern and luxurious boat while listening to live music.
Dinner is ideal because it's buffet style, so you'll be spoilt for choice as you admire the city's architectural gems such as Charles Bridge, Prague Castle and the Powder Tower from a completely different perspective.
Of course, if you prefer a daytime plan, you can also book a lunch cruise in Prague, which is also buffet style and takes place at around 12 noon.
