Step by Step
This walking tour takes place in Commune 13, a once run-down neighbourhood that has been reborn thanks to street art and tourism. The route departs from the centre and reaches the neighbourhood by a combined route that also includes a cable car and a bus ride.
The route lasts approximately 4.5 hours and includes both an expert guide and typical snacks. As a bonus, Comuna 13 is located high up in the western part of Medellín and, once there, you will be able to admire a splendid panorama of the Colombian city.
For many years, Comuna 13 was synonymous with violence and drug trafficking. During Pablo Escobar's criminal empire, the district was the epicentre of cocaine trafficking and things didn't change even after his death.
The neighbourhood has changed radically thanks to two factors: the construction of free escalators and the funicular railway, as well as the impressive Operation Orion in 2002, which eradicated guerrilla militias from the area.
