The best things to do in Buenos Aires can be experienced during the winter. Unlike other countries in the northern hemisphere, winter in Argentina lasts from mid-June until mid-September. Temperatures are not too cold, so you will be able to enjoy many activities.

During these months there are several festivals and national holidays that are worth seeing up close. At each one you can witness the Argentinean culture, meet locals, eat delicious food and enjoy the music. Buenos Aires is waiting for you!

Tango is one of the most popular dances in the world. And when you travel to Buenos Aires you can experience the passion for tango up close at the Tango BA Festival. This event usually takes place in mid-September, when winter ends in Argentina. The streets are filled with festivities, joy and more than 1500 artists. Throughout the city there are dance performances, films, concerts and much more.

Parallel to this celebration, the Tango World Cup also takes place. Amateur and professional dancers from all over the world can register and compete. The categories of the competition are Tango de Pista and Tango Escenario.

If, as well as watching it, you feel like practising it, in Buenos Aires you can also attend a tango class. You don't need to know anything, you just need to be eager to feel this sensual dance and enjoy the moment.

Graffiti artists and muralists have the opportunity to paint their works in the city and decorate the streets in a very original way. This is a very interesting experience, as you will be able to share with locals, as well as try new recipes and international products. At the same time as the fair, there is also the Alfajor World Cup. During this event a specialised jury tests and rates the alfajores of all participants.

The categories that participants can win are "best dark chocolate", "best exotic flavour", "best texture", "best alfajor in the world", among others. You can attend without buying tickets, but with a previous reservation. I recommend you check the schedule for both events, as it is possible that they may change location.

The Coffee Festival is a good excuse to spend a week enjoying the best coffee in Buenos Aires. This event takes place in the middle of June in different places of the city. You will be able to taste signature coffees, enjoy cosy atmospheres, good music and much more.

There you will be able to see the promotions and discounts that will be offered at the Coffee Market, held in a public square in Buenos Aires. Also, there you will be able to visit more than 20 stalls offering varieties of this beverage at affordable prices.

In addition to these exhibitions, you will have the opportunity to participate in activities, talks and workshops around this beverage. In the pavilions you will find representatives of different famous coffee shops such as Martínez, Santa Café, Café Fundador, Café Salteño, Usina Cafetera and Kropo, among others.

A good way to get to know a city is to participate in its most traditional festivities. One of them is the San Antonio de Padua Patron Saint's Day. This takes place in the municipality of Merlo de Buenos Aires in the first fortnight of June during a weekend. Normally the date is confirmed by the municipality and the entrance is free.

Currently, the fair is held for around four days at the beginning of September. The dates may vary, but it is usually during the winter. If you want to go, you will need to buy a ticket for around €4. You can see more than 400 artists and their projects, see more than 71 galleries, buy art and attend talks and lectures, among other activities.

Each one of them has a cultural agenda in which you can find musical presentations, artistic meetings, book presentations, among others.

One of the best things to do in Palermo in Buenos Aires during the winter is to visit the Tres de Febrero Park. You will be able to enjoy a variety of experiences that give you the opportunity to connect with nature.

I recommend you to visit this park at the beginning of July, as this is the time when the pruning season starts. This process is carried out so that the rose bushes bloom healthy and strong during the winter. The neighbours take advantage of the occasion to come and take the flowers and cuttings that can be planted in another area. You can also be part of this custom and take some flowers.

While you walk around the park, you can see the beautiful artificial lakes and take a boat or water bike ride. I also recommend you to visit the Plaza Holanda located inside the park. There you will find El Rosesal, a garden with numerous rose bushes that is not to be missed.

Winter in Buenos Aires lasts from mid-June to mid-September. Temperatures can reach 16 °C. Although the coldest month of all is June, you don't have to worry about a frost or anything like that. For some, this is the best time to go to Buenos Aires, as you won't suffer from the heat.

Even if it's not too cold, keep in mind that you should bring a coat and a scarf, especially if you want to explore the city at night. During these hours the temperature can drop considerably, so it's best to be prepared.

Almost all winter months in Buenos Aires have a relatively high number of tourists, but not more than in the summer. July is the month with the highest number of visitors to the nearby beaches. However, some decide to make the most of the cold weather and go to ice rinks from June until the end of August.

Keep in mind that during these months children are on school holidays. For this reason, you may find places a little more crowded than in other months. Prices may be a little cheaper than during the summer, but there is not much difference.
